Akimoto Junko(秋元順子)

When Akimoto Junko(秋元順子) was a small child, she was a member of a children's theater and wanted to become an actress.

After graduating from high school, she performed as a member of a Hawaian band while working at a petoleum company but became a stay-at-home mother after getting married. She resumed her singing activities after her child grew up when she was in her forties.

When she was 57 years old, she released the song "Love of Madison County(マディソン郡の恋 Madisongun'no Koi)" on an independent label, and the song reached the top spot on the Wired Called in Ranking(有線お問合せランキング Yūsen Otoiawase Rankingu). The next year, she made her major label debut with King Record Co., Ltd.(キングレコード ingu Reko-do) with her hit song from previous year. King Record touted her as the star of the baby-bommer generation(団塊世代の星 Dankaiseidaino Hoshi).

She made her first appearance on Kōhaku Utagassen in 2008 aged 61 years 6 months, the oldest performer to make a debut on the show. She also appeared on Kōhaku Utagassen the following year.
