Verbal Message~Message~(伝言~メッセージ~ Dengon~Messeiji~) by Hikawa Kiyoshi(氷川きよし)

The peaceful sunset's
Townscape
Looking at them
Made me feel as if tomorrow, something good
Will happen
So you said
I was overjoyed when we met
And cried when we parted
The number of overflowing memories
Will one day turn into flowers
I won't forget
The message that day
To you I want to say
"I love you"

Sleeping on the grassland
The blue sky
The white clouds
The gentle breeze and the chirping birds
Slowly flowing
Length of the day
The day when our happiness ends
I lived in fear
Our days of youth are
Flowers sleeping in our hearts
From the times
Message which overflowed over
Even now, I want to tell you
"I love you"

The falling flowers will come back one day
For spring, secretly
Eagerly awaiting
Impatiently, this message
Even now, I want to tell you
"I love you"

A Man's Journeying Path(男の航路 Otokono Kōro) by Hikawa Kiyoshi(氷川きよし)

The winds and rain from the tempest chasing the flowers
Weathering them chisels a man's face
If a person's figure is his mirror
That reflection is also a mirror
A man's journeying path where the dream is the luggage

If I insist and force my way, it creates hard feelings
If I whine instead, people laugh at me
In such a transient world's lone corner
I faced only hardships
But I keep them all in my chest, a man's journeying path

An act of kindness completely unexpected
In my heart, I put my hands together many times in gratitude
If I doubt whether to go right or left
Let's look forward and head straight ahead
I start rowing towards tomorrow, a man's journeying path

Even a road too long to walk alone
If walked together becomes a dreamy road
People aren't always alone
We can live by loving and by being loved
Let's start walking the road to tomorrow
While humming a song in our hearts

Even the pretty flowers which color the seasons
When they fall, they wait for the spring to come around again
Living life, tears of joy
Tears of sorrow, a repetition of both
Let's start walking the road to tomorrow
While humming a song in our hearts

If we walk the path each of us believes in
The winter will surely turn into spring
Let's start walking the road to tomorrow
While humming a song in our hearts
While humming a song in our hearts

Kanmon Straits blurred by the fog
I crossed it on the way to the city of Hakata
During the Gion Yamagasa Festival that summer
I met and fell in love with that woman in yukata at first sight
I want to see her... I am in love...
Searching Tenjin, those teary eyes

The love from that day, the tram
Brings it to me, Harusame Path
From Megane Bridge to a western style house
If I retrace my memories the chapel's bells
I want to see her... I am in love...
The sunset at Nagasaki harbor stings my eyes

Tenmonkan where the sun sets with the rain
Many a side face somehow resembling you
If you love me still
I want to follow you to the ends of the Earth
I want to see her... I am in love...
Kagoshima my destination, I hope it's sunny tomorrow

The vagabond from the rosy Edo
Walking alone on the Sugaru path, Mount Fuji
From the Miho no Matsubara*, looking out into the ocean
Flock of birds gathered around a white sail
Oops, no can do
Oops, no can do
Excuse me, (I'm a) slightly whimsical migratory bird

The young lady I first saw on Amagi Pass in Izu
If she were a flower, she would be a red rhododendron
Even if I had fallen in love with her all the way down to the marrow of my bone
I can't court her, sandogasa**
Oops, no can do
Oops, no can do
Excuse me, (I'm a) slightly whimsical migratory bird

Leaving Komoro***, at Kutsukakejyuku****
The moon looks like my mom
The cracked(chapped) fingers, rounded shoulders
I can only pray that she is well
Oops, no can do
Oops, no can do
Excuse me, (I'm a) slightly whimsical migratory bird

*Miho no Matsubara is a scenic area on the Miho Peninsula.
**Sandogasa is a hat made from bamboos or carex worn by travelers in olden Japan.

Hikawa Kiyoshi(氷川きよし)

Hikawa Kiyoshi(氷川きよし) made his debut in 2000 with the single Hakone Eight Ri's Hanjiro(箱根八里の半次郎 Hakone Hachiri No Hanjirō).

In 2001, he became the first ever male enka singer (third enka singer overall) to appear on the cover of the Oricon magazine called Oricon Week The First (オリコン ウィーク The Ichiban) at the time.

Since he released "Ōi Chasing Otojirō(大井追っかけ音次郎 Ōi Okkake Otojirō)" in 2001, every new single he released has started out in the top ten of the Oricon Enka Famous Song Collection chart and the Oricon Singles Chart. He is the only enka singer to achieve this feat.

In most of his performances, he usually wears western clothing instead of traditional Japanese clothes.

Although he includes a choreography in his performances, they are always kept simple so that even small children and older fans can imitate his movements.

Since making his debut on the Kōhaku Utagassen in 2000, he has appeared in all subsequent festivals (2014 at the time when this was written). He sung in the ōtori(大トリ) position in 2008 and in the torimae(トリ前) position in 2003 and 2010.
