She made her Japanese debut in 1977 with the song "A Woman's Lifetime(女の一生 On'nano Isshō)." In 1981, her "A Song's Bouquet(歌の花束 Utano Hanataba)" sold 3.6 million copies, the best-selling record from South Korea in Japan at the time.
In 1988, she sung "From the Country of the Morning(朝の国から Asano Kunikara)" at the closing ceremony for the Seoul Olympics in front of a hundred thousand spectators at the main stadium.
