Kōzai Kaori(香西かおり) won various awards singing min'yō(民謡) from an early age, even releasing min'yō records.
In 1982, she started working for the Sun Kobe Bank(太陽神戸銀行 Taiyō Kōbe Ginkō) but left the bank because she wanted to sing professionally.
She moved to Tokyo to fulfill her dream and made her enka debut with the single "Rainy Tavern(雨酒場 Ame Sakaba)" which lead her to win the newcomer's award at the 30th Japan Record Awards.
She has appeared on Kōhaku Utagassen from 1991 to 1995, 1997 to 2003, 2005 to 2007, and from 2012 to 2014.
