Chiba Kazuo(千葉一夫)'s younger sister passed away when he was five years old. When he entered junior high school, he started to have desires to become an enka singer. However, his father was against this idea and he ends up working for the Japanese National Railways.
However, his father passed away the same year he started working for the Japanese National Railways. His desire to become a singer returned and he resigned from his job and moved to Tokyo when he was 25 years old. He worked for various companies including glass making factory, cardboard factory, and night club while looking for a chance to break into the music industry.
He finally made his debut in 1980 with the single "I Want to See You(君に逢いたい Kimini Aitai)." In 2003, his single "Rain Firefly(雨蛍 Ame Hotaru)" reached the sixth spot on the Oricon Enka Chart. Many other of his recent singles have reached the top ten spot on the Oricon Enka Chart including "Hydrangea in the Drizzle(紫陽花しぐれ Ajisai Shigure)" which was released on 6/24/2015.
