Maekawa Kiyoshi(前川清)

Maekawa Kiyoshi(前川清)'s father worked on the American naval base in Sasebo as a shipwright. He loved baseball when he was young and he played the game along with other fellow children of the men who worked at the naval base. The jazz songs played on the American naval base had a huge influence on him, and he studied jazz in junior high and high school. Eventually, he dreamed of becoming a musician.

He left high school during his junior year and eventually ended up being scouted by the movie director Kobayashi Masaki(小林正樹) while singing in a cabaret in Nagasaki. He became the lead vocalist in the popular kayōkyoku group Hiroshi Uchiyamada and Cool Five (内山田洋とクール・ファイブ Uchiyamada Hiroshi to Kūru Faibu).

The group sang in the Kōhaku Utagassen(紅白歌合戦) 15 times, 11 times as official participants on the white team and 4 times as a guest. After the group's popularity declined, several members of the group retired while new members joined. During this period, Maekawa Kiyoshi appeared on Kōhaku Utagassen(紅白歌合戦) as a solo singer (18 times).
